Someday Sideways was a unique exploration into gender relations.  Choreographed by Jock Soto, the performers were costumed in a way that enhanced their physical shape, light in color and almost nude.  The three-part dance was physical, exploring boundaries and limitations, connection and separation.

My first meetings with the choreographer revolved around the subject of color.  With such light clothing and taking into account the very physical nature of the dance, would there need to be any significant statements of saturated color in the lighting?  We both agreed that any color should come from behind the dancers, to separate them from the background.  Downlight pools and isolated side light became the tools of choice in this uniquely choreographed piece.
